We have been serving free meals out of the SC-200 space for almost two decades!
In 2007 our free meal program began under the name "Loyola Luncheon", providing free vegetarian meals to students.
In 2016 We officially became the Hive Free Lunch, as a collaboration between the Concordia Student Union and the Hive Café Coop
In 2019 we began making vegan meals and including gluten free options to be accessible to more students
In 2020, as a response to the pandemic, we began a Meals on Wheels program to bring free food to students in need.
In 2021 our free grocery program began as a free grocery basket program to address rising food insecurity amongst students. We also partnered with CultivAction (an on-campus garden group) to get hyper-local organically grown produce.
In 2022, the free grocery program officially became a bi-annual program; offering free groceries for students before the winter and spring break to ensure they had access to healthy food while the lunch program was closed. enuf also provided a community fridge to the SC space, marking the beginning of our partnership.
In 2023, our free breakfast program began following a campaign to increase the ASFA fee levy
In 2025, we began offering free dinner from Monday-Wednesday
Today:
In 2026 the Hive Free Meal program officially separated from the Hive Café Coop and incorporated as a non-profit under the name Honey's Free Meal Program
We can't wait to see what the future holds as we expand our program to include more community outreach and programs to help students achieve food security!
